Chelsea are the only English team which are present in any later stages of European competitions this season and they look like they can repeat last season feat by wining the second tier European tie.
They were the favorites to go through to the Finals and they did manage to put in a good performance and it will take some performance from Basel to overturn the result in their favor.
Chelsea played well for most of the game and they did manage to win the game with the last kick of the game by courtesy of a Daviz Luiz free kick.
They were in control when they scored the first goal but some crazy referring where the referee awarded a penalty when nothing seemed to be wrong. Basel scored from the penalty and leveled the score.
Chelsea did fightback after the goal and managed to score from a nicely taken free kick from David Luiz. Some will argue that Luiz should not have been on the pitch at that time. He made a horrific tackle on Degen which looked really bad and could have broken the player leg. But the referee just gave a yellow card and Degen was lucky not to have a serious injury.
Chelsea did play well and deserved to win the game. This competition is very important for Chelsea and the manager Rafa Benitez as well as they hunt for a trophy is still alive this season. They lost to Manchester City in the FA Cup semifinals and they will hope to get a trophy by wining the Europa League. Winning the Europa League is more important to Rafa Benitez as he can another trophy to his CV as he will not be managing Chelsea next season and can find a job somewhere else by wining this trophy.
