If you did not see last nights match maybe because you live in Europe and live somewhere else where the match schedule for the Champions League Semifinal clash between Bayern Munich and Barcelona is not time friendly as you need to get sleep to go for work the next morning then you will be in for a shock to hear that Bayern Munich thrashed Spanish runaway leaders Barcelona 4 to nothing.
Both teams are comfortably leading their respective leagues with margins in double figure for the second placed teams. So if you expected a epic Semifinal clash maybe you were disappointed to see a fully one sided clash where Barcelona did have 63 % of the possession but the German champions made light work of Barcelona and humiliated them by scoring 4 goals without a response from Barcelona even after have less than 40% possession in the match.
Even the mighty "Messiah" Lionel Messi could save them from such a humiliated defeat. The likes of Xavi, Iniesta did not show up as much as the neutral fans would have wanted to see the magic trio of Messi, Xavi and Iniesta work their way to the finals. Messi wasnt the fittest and was quiet for most of the game thanks to the hard working and hard tacking midfield of Bayern Munich which included Javi Martínez, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Müller with the speedy and quick Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry.
The German side had a plan and they stuck to it where they ran for each and every ball and close down the Barcelona players quickly in numbers of 2 or 3 player which made the passing between Barcelona players difficult. And whenever they got the ball they would play superb counter attack football which was a peach watch.
The game was very exciting as you could see the physical strength of Bayern Munich as they stole the ball from Barcelona players who did not know what to do for most of the game. They did not know how to play differently, they did have no plan B and that has been the Achilles Heel which Bayern took full advantage of.
There was a spell where Bayern Munich looked tired and their steam going down but Barcelona could not take advantage of it to create clear cut opportunities for themselves. The bayern manager was quick to see the tired players and made substitutions which would bring fresh legs into their team and maintain the high tempo that they had for most of the game.
Javi Martínez was a rock in the middle who broke down each move that came from the Barcelona team and he also made quick passes which started the moves for his team. But Thomas Müller was the Man of the Match for his two goals, his movement on and off the ball and heading capability which helped Bayern to soak the pressure put by Barcelona.
All in all it was a fantastic game to watch with only one team showing up for the game, but their performance made up for the really bad show from Barcelona. Hopefully tonights match Borussia Dortmund vs Real Madrid will be a equally contested match. But i wont mind another german side wining comfortably and making it a all German Champions League Final at Wembley.
