It was a big game for Borussia Dormund at home to play Real Madrid in the Semi-finals of the Champions League and boy did they turn up all guns blazing making a mockery of the Real Madrid defense.
Robert Lewandowski was exceptional and scored four goals in a game to match a feat that only four others have done including the current world class Lionel Messi. Dortmund were the better team for the most of the game and the scoreline could have been worse as some referee decisions and fine save from the Madrid goalie helped Madrid from conceding more than four goals.
It was a game where two tacktically similar playing teams with fast and quick counter attacking style were playing each. And the better defensive team won with only one mistake by Matt Hummels which could have derailed their night.
Before the game the buzz and noise for Dortmund was about their star player Mario Gotze leaving for their rivals Bayern Munich in a big money move of 32 million pounds. The fans were angered and it showed with some fans booing the player whenever he got the ball.
There were picture and banners which called him "JUDAS" for betraying them and joining their rivals just before the most important game in the clubs history for some time now.
The manager apealed to the fans to support the team before the huge game and stay calm. He would have hoped the news would have not gone public at such a important stage in their season.
But the players did not let the transfer affect them and put in a show that almost emulated that of Bayern Munich when they trashed Barcelona. Exceptional finishing by the striker Robert Lewandowski; swift, crisp and passing with purpose by the midfield and strong, pressurized defending by the central midfielders and defenders. Calm and composed goalkeeping by the goalkeeper helped them secure a much deserved win for Dortmund.
The pressing game and quick movement saw them tearing apart the Real Madrid defense and made their counter attacking game play ineffective for most of the game. Higuan and Ronaldo were just sharp enough for their teams only goal and they looked ordinary for the rest of the game apart from the freekick by Cristiano Ronaldo. Luka Modric was very poor and it looked like he was for a stroll in the park just passing along the pitch without any purpose. Defending was horrible by Pepe as it is as usual but the reliable Varane had a nightmare trying to defend against Robert Lewandowski and the Dortmund attacking threat.
